Justin Bieber’s ‘Never Say Never’ to be remixed with new footage, re-released

Fans of Justin Bieber have been almost standing in line to see ‘Never Say Never.’ But the studio now has a scheme to make them all see it again; They’re considering releasing a remix in two weeks.Most films that portray a band or artist in concert suffer steep losses in box-office income after 2-3 weeks, so Paramount are hatching a plan to release an ‘updated’ version that could include different performances, new scenes of Justin at the premiere and early screenings, and even new scenes shot at the Grammy’s on Sunday.
The man in charge of the film, John Chu, is already working on a ‘Director’s Cut,’ and the studio are waiting to see what he adds to that before deciding whether to release the remix in theaters or as a ‘Special Edition’ DVD.
You can certainly see the appeal – 84-percent of all the theaters showing the film use a digital copy, so the costs of sending them a new version would be trivial compared to the old-fashioned celluloid prints.
And most of the marketing would also be free – Justin has 7.3-million followers on Twitter and 21-million on Facebook. One word from him on each of those platforms and there’d be lines round the block.
As for the remix, Vulture says Chu has several days of concert material and over a dozen songs filmed before Justin reached Madison Square Garden that are not in the film’s current version. So a reboot would be easy.
And there’s more – Another idea the studio is mulling is letting you, the fans choose what gets replaced. If you hated Sean Kingston’s singing in ‘Eenie Meenie’ you could vote for that scene to be replaced by the Miley Cyrus duet ‘Overboard,’ which was shot at the MSG concert.
Personally I think this is a cold-hearted ploy by the studio to gouge double the profits from the same group of people. But what’s your review – Would you go see a remix? And which scenes would you vote to get cut?…
